This one goes out to all the homeowners or future homeowners out there.
This weekend I was able to do an open house for my sellers in their beautiful home in Legacy Ridge.
Why am I writing a blog post about this?
Because there home was, is, and will continue to be such a treat to be in because it is immaculately kept!
It’s wild how much a well maintained, clean, and uncluttered home stands out from the rest. I love being in their home because it exudes care and responsibility by the owners.
All of the people who came through, and there was a good number, remarked on how nice, bright, well taken care of, and clean the place was.
This is important! It helps in every aspect of the sale; pictures were a breeze because it shows beautifully, showings aren’t stressful as it’s always ready to go, negotiating will be easier as there isn’t anything that needs fixing, and when the new owners move in it will be with a smile!
So how does this apply to you?
Not everyone can keep an immaculate home all the time, and that’s not what I’m suggesting; but there is a lot to be said for doing the proper maintenance on your home.
Keep the yard looking nice, make sure there are no major repairs that need to be done before you list your home, take pride in the interior of your home, ie walls, floors, smells, etc…
These may seem like some pretty basic and common sense items, but as a Realtor I get to be inside a lot of homes day in and day out and I’m shocked at the state of some of them, as are my buyers. In my experience, I’ve found very few people have enough imagination to be able to look past the mess, the broken, the unkept, and the smells.
So do you and your future self a favour and be sure to take care of what you’ve got. Take pride in one of the biggest purchases you’ll ever make. Address issues as they come up, keep things tidy and respect the gift of shelter and comfort your home is and you’ll have a much easier time when the day comes to sell your lovely place.
Cheers,
Mike Walker aka Lethbridge Mike
